Rapides Regional Medical Center is home to a spiritual, meditative labyrinth. The Labyrinth is a 7-circuit aligned Chartres Essence with heart space design. The labyrinth was built in November 2021 by Lars Howlett, master labyrinth builder. It is patterned, in part, after the Chartres Cathedral in France.
The labyrinth is an ancient, sacred, spiritual symbol. It is a metaphor for one’s life journey with all of life’s turns. Whether one seeks a meditative walk, spiritual pilgrimage, healing journey or search for peace, the labyrinth provides a place of spiritual refuge.
The creation of the Labyrinth at Rapides Regional Medical Center was championed by Martin Tanner, M.D., and his wife, Annelle. Both are trained labyrinth facilitators. The labyrinth at RRMC is just the second in a hospital in Louisiana.
“Once you step onto the labyrinth, you just follow the path,” said Annelle Tanner. “It is a peaceful, meditative time for you to listen and to reflect.”
The Labyrinth at Rapides Regional Medical Center is located at the Rapides Cancer Center, 605 Medical Center Drive. It is open from dawn to dusk. Patients, their family members and the community are welcome to utilize the labyrinth.
