Education
As a certified teaching hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center is home to several residency programs. Our two schools — The School of Medical Laboratory Science and the School of Phlebotomy — are designed to help you obtain the knowledge and skills you need to work as a medical laboratory scientist or phlebotomist.
School of Medical Laboratory Science
At the School of Medical Laboratory Science, burgeoning medical scientists work under experienced laboratory pathologists, who help them perform tests that physicians rely on when diagnosing and treating disease.
Throughout your residency, you will make use of hundreds of scientific procedures that have been devised to disclose the subtle changes that disease produces in the body. By studying organisms and cells under the microscope, you can analyze the chemical composition of body fluids and secretions to discover clues about illnesses that might not be detected in other ways.

School of Phlebotomy
The main function of a phlebotomist is to obtain blood specimens by venipuncture and micro-collection techniques. A phlebotomist also facilitates collection and transportation clinical laboratory specimens. Residency at the School of Phlebotomy is designed to not only educate you, but also enhance your interpersonal communications and observations so you can thrive in the profession.
