Alexandria, LA - Rapides Regional Medical Center has added a free online COVID-19 screening questionnaire through Rapides Care Navigator, a unique online health triage that guides patients to the right care for their condition and history.

Developed based on CDC guidelines, the screening directs patients to the most appropriate care setting. Available 24/7 from a patient's phone, tablet or computer, Rapides Care Navigator asks detailed questions about an individual's health condition and symptoms, guiding them to the appropriate level of care, whether it's making an appointment with a physician, going to urgent care, going directly to an ER or scheduling an online appointment for a virtual health visit with a medical provider.

"Rapides Regional Medical Center wants to help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19," says RRMC CEO Jason E. Cobb. "Rapides Care Navigator is a timely addition to our extensive healthcare network. It offers privacy, convenience and accessibility that makes sense for people throughout Central Louisiana practicing social distancing and under stay-at-home orders. The addition of the free COVID-19 screening allows patients experiencing symptoms like fever, cough, fatigue, body aches, among others, to be responsible as we work to stop the spread of the virus."

How to access: Free online COVID-19 screening questionnaire

The online COVID-19 screening questionnaire is a free service. Following the COVID-19 screening questionnaire, you may continue to the online triage process and based on your symptoms and condition, you will be directed to the best care option. This may mean being seen by a healthcare professional via Virtual Visit. The video Virtual Visit is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week by medical providers who can treat patients six months and older. The cost is $25.

If your condition can't be treated by video, the provider will recommend the best care option.

To access the COVID-19 screening questionnaire on the Care Navigator tool:

  1. Go to rapidescarenav.com from your computer or smartphone, or go to rapidesregional.com and look for the link.
  2. Look for the COVID-19 announcement at the top of the page.
  3. Select "Start Screening Now" to begin the screening process.

If you are determined to be at risk for COVID-19, a virtual medical provider will see you and determine the next steps in your treatment plan.

If you are determined not to be at risk for COVID-19, you may choose to answer additional screening questions about your symptoms. You will then be navigated to the appropriate care setting, whether it be a $25 virtual visit, urgent care or physician practice.

For severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, always call 911 or head to the emergency room.

"Knowing where to go, especially right now, can be difficult and overwhelming," said Cobb. "The free COVID-19 screening and, if needed, a Virtual Visit, answers a patient's health concerns and proactively gets them to the appropriate care site they need."
