Rapides After Hours is expanding – to Alexandria. Rapides After Hours second site will be located at 3800 Jackson Street Extension.

“We are very proud of our first Rapides After Hours center,” said Jason Cobb, Rapides Regional Medical Center chief executive officer. “Patients have told us they appreciate the extended hours, quality care and the convenient location in Pineville. Now, we want to do the same thing for our patients in Alexandria.”

The Alexandria location will be open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new location is expected to open in Spring 2014, and is located across Jackson Street from Kroger.

“This is not a primary care office, though those requesting a primary care physician or requiring follow-up care will be referred to one of RRMC’s expert practitioners,” Cobb said. “This center truly specializes in after hours, urgent care medical treatment without appointments or long wait times.”

The site will include digital X-ray and lab services.

According to healthcare industry experts, approximately 27% of emergency room visits could have been taken care of in an urgent care setting.  The difference in cost between an urgent care visit and an emergency room visit for the same diagnosis ranges between $225-$500.

Rapides After Hours will treat ear and eye infections, fever, minor cuts needing stitches, possible broken bones or simple fractures, severe sore throat, sprains or strains, work-related injuries and vomiting/diarrhea. The center is NOT intended for major emergencies. Patients experiencing a life- or limb-threatening situation should still dial 9-1-1 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
