ALEXANDRIA, La., Feb. 2, 2012 – To those undergoing chemotherapy or other forms of cancer treatment, eating may appear to be the last thing on their mind.
Registered dietician Sandy Couvillon will explain the key role nutrition plays for those in treatment or recovery on Monday, Feb. 20 during the Cancer Support Group at Rapides Regional Medical Center. The meeting is open to cancer patients, survivors, family, friends and members of the community.
“They often don’t have much of an appetite, so I will be talking about shakes and drinks they can make,” said Couvillon, Rapides Regional’s clinical nutrition manager.
She will also discuss the importance of vitamins and minerals and meal planning, as well as offering recipes. There will be a question and answer session following her presentation.
The Cancer Support Group will meet at noon in the Cascade Room at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. A light lunch will be served, so pre-registration is required by calling (318) 769-7200 or (318) 769-7258.
