When your child has special medical needs, you want exceptional expertise. That expertise is available to you at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Pediatric ICU

Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital is home to the area’s largest pediatric intensive care unit, with 19 beds staffed by the area’s only pediatric intensivists and a team of acute-care trained pediatric Nurse Practitioners who can provide a higher-level of care at a moment’s notice.

A hospitalist service is available for patients on the pediatric unit. Hospitalists work with your physician to insure a seamless transition from outpatient care to inpatient service. Hospitalists are also available to communicate with patients and their families when questions arise. Hospitalists take care of inpatients at the request of the patient’s physician.

It also offers non-invasive conscious sedation, performed by pediatric intensivists, for your child in the event that he or she requires more extensive testing.

Pediatric Speciality Clinic

The Specialty Clinic at Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital offers specialties such as pediatric pulmonology, pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric hematology-oncology and neurology. The clinic is located on the fourth floor of the Medical Pavilion at Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital.

These clinics allow patients more flexibility in scheduling appointments and greater access to specialized medical care. Patients can call 318-769-7640 for more information or to make an appointment.

Non-Invasive Pediatric Sedation Services

At Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital, we recognize that children have special needs and may have a heightened sense of anxiety when it comes to certain medical procedures. Because of this, our pediatric staff offers sedation services for certain diagnostic testing procedures such as MRI, CT scan, bone scan, EEG, bronchs, VCUG, AVRs and hearing tests.

Sedation will decrease fear and anxiety in your child, allowing for a more relaxed procedure and experience. It is our goal to help your child remain at ease during any procedure. The sedations are performed by our pediatric intensivists. To schedule a pediatric moderate sedation, call (318) 769-7607
