Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital is home to this area’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Designed to care for the critical care needs of children with severe injuries and illnesses, the unit houses the latest equipment and technology to care for a wide range of conditions – preventing families from having to travel to New Orleans or Shreveport for their children’s critical care.
The PICU is staffed by two highly trained pediatric intensivists – Taj Khan, M.D. and Marvin Mata, M.D. – along with a team of specially trained nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists and support staff. Patients may be admitted directly to the PICU or transferred from another facility.
PICU Visiting Hours: Parents are typically allowed at bedside around the clock. Additional loved ones are allowed a 30 minute visit at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
