Rapides Outpatient Center recently added General Electric’s new Wide Bore MRI to their already state-of-the-art imaging services.  Now larger patients and those who fear tight spaces can feel more at ease during their MRI experience.
“Some patients can present special challenges when undergoing MR testing,” said Kevin Shows, Rapides Regional Medical Center’s director of radiology. “Now, even those patients who don’t like small spaces or those who don’t fit in traditional scanners can be more easily imaged and diagnosed with high quality scans.”

The system’s 1.5T field strength is the industry’s best known and most widely used. The larger bore diameter and field of view help make MR scans accessible to more patients who need them.

“The addition of this MRI allows us to further expand the range of diagnostic services that Rapides Regional’s Outpatient Center can offer to the patients of Central Louisiana,” Shows said.  “Traditionally, wide-bore scanners or ‘Open’ magnets had limitations, namely compromised image quality. But G.E. took their time and overcame those issues with their Wide Bore system”.

Patients considering an MRI can ask their doctor to schedule it at Rapides Outpatient Center.  For more information about the Optima MR450w at Rapides Regional Medical Center, visit rapidesregional.com.
