The Rapides Regional Medical Center hosted a banquet on Sept. 26 to celebrate the work of the Rapides Auxiliary in 2012.

The Rapides Auxiliary is comprised of 70 active volunteers who have contributed 18,584 hours at the hospital in 2012 through Aug. 31.

Rapides Auxiliary President Paulette McGlothlin reports 16 new volunteers have joined the auxiliary, which underwent an operational change following the retirement last year of liaison Joyce Rachal. Rapides Regional Medical Center Chaplain Wayne Sibley is now the auxiliary liaison.

Volunteers Mary Blair, Mary Bryant, Erskine Cook, Lula Hale, Bonnie Hawthorne, Doris Johnson, Larien Newcomb, Nell Nugent, Wayne Wells and McGlothlin were recognized for comprising the top 10 in hours volunteered in 2012.

Irene Allgood, Janice Clark, Blair and Bryant were also honored for reaching 2,500 total volunteer hours status.

In the last 12 months, the Auxiliary has made several donations to non-profit agencies:

  • The Shepherd Center
  • Honduras Mission
  • American Heart Association
  • Family Practice Education
  • March of Dimes
  • YMCA
  • Hope House.

“The mission of the Auxiliary is to serve the hospital, but we also use it as an opportunity to help other organizations in the community,” said McGlothlin.

In addition, two nursing scholarships were awarded in the past year.
