The 2024 football season was memorable in Rapides Parish as Alexandria Senior High became the first parish school to play for a state championship in the Superdome in New Orleans.
It was also record-breaking for Rapides Cancer Center’s Kick Cancer partnership with the parish’s eight football-playing high schools. The partnership raises money for each program as well as the American Cancer Society through every successful field goal ($20 each) and Point After Try ($10) during the season.
ASH claimed the Golden Boot award for the third straight year for raising the most money with a record $830. Trojan kickers Channing Meche and Eli Fung connected on an amazing 75 PATs and 4 field goals.
“This is a true team award,” said ASH football coach Thomas Bachman. “It takes everyone on offense working together, and the defense playing well to give the offense more opportunities to score. While we had a successful season on the field, the fact we helped raise money to fight cancer and support cancer patients is more important. Cancer impacts everyone, directly or indirectly, and we are proud to receive this honor."
For the first time, two schools eclipsed the minimum $500 donation threshold as Tioga High School raised $560 from 46 PATs and 5 field goals. Combined, Rapides Parish schools raised $4,390 for the American Cancer Society.

Ducote, Vice President of Public Relations, Marketing and Business Development at Rapides Regional Medical Center. “We congratulate Alexandria Senior High for a tremendous season, and we look forward to the day we can truly kick cancer once and for all.”
The six other schools in the parish – Bolton, Buckeye, Holy Savior Menard, Northwood, Peabody and Pineville– are receiving a minimum donation of $500, with an equal donation made on their behalf to ACS.
