To show your support for breast cancer patients throughout Cenla, all you have to do is wear your favorite pink dress, shirt, tie – or even socks.

The American College of Surgeons has re-verified the Level II trauma center at Rapides Regional Medical Center. The Rapides Regional Trauma Center was the first of its kind in Louisiana when it opened in 2011, and is still one of just three verified trauma centers in the state.

The Rapides Healthcare System Board of Directors has approved a $12.5 million expansion of the Emergency Department at Rapides Regional Medical Center. When fully operational in the first quarter of 2016, the emergency department at RRMC will nearly double in size by adding more than 16,000 square feet. It will be one of the largest emergency facilities in Louisiana.

When it comes to your child, safety is always a priority. So it may shock some parents to realize that even though they make sure their child uses a car seat, they are probably using it incorrectly. “The majority of the children we see during these checks are not using the proper car seat for their height, weight or age,” said Theresa Hood, RNC, BSN, MS. “In fact, studies have shown that one in five parents don’t even read the instructions that come with the car seat.” That’s why Rapides Regional Medical Center is offering a free “Child Passenger Safety” event on Wednesday, May 28, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Medical Terrace doctor’s building.

Rapides After Hours Urgent Care has expanded – to Alexandria. The site, located at 3800 Jackson Street Ext., is now open. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Rapides Regional Medical Center has decided that waiting until November 11 each year to honor Veterans is not good enough. Earlier this year, RRMC implemented the Salute Our Veterans program. The program honors all Veterans and active duty military personnel who are patients in the hospital.

Miss Violet is a germ-fighting robot by Xenex that uses ultraviolet light to zap harmful bacteria from patient rooms throughout the hospital.
